InvestReferral.ca ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit this site, how it is used, and your rights under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).
1. Information We Collect
When you visit InvestReferral.ca, standard server and analytics data is automatically collected. This includes your IP address (anonymised), browser type, device type, pages visited, time spent on pages, and approximate geographic location (city/region level). This data is used solely to understand how the site is used and to improve it.
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your first name and email address. This information is stored securely with our email provider (Mailchimp) and is used only to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
Numbers entered into our calculators (income, contributions, age, etc.) are processed entirely in your browser. This data is never transmitted to our servers and we never see it.
2. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services which may collect data independently under their own privacy policies:
Tracks page views, sessions, and user behaviour. Data is anonymised. Google's privacy policy applies.
Records anonymised session replays and heatmaps to help us improve the site's usability. No personally identifiable information is captured.
Tracks page view counts and site performance metrics. No cookies are used. Vercel's privacy policy applies.
Stores email addresses and first names of newsletter subscribers. Mailchimp's privacy policy applies.
3. Cookies
This site uses minimal cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish unique visitors and sessions. Microsoft Clarity uses cookies for session recording. Vercel Analytics does not use cookies. Our newsletter dismissal preference is stored in your browser's localStorage (not a cookie). You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time, though this may affect site functionality.
4. Referral Links
This site contains referral links to third-party brokerages including Wealthsimple and Questrade. When you click these links, you are subject to those companies' privacy policies. We may receive a referral commission if you open an account through our links. We do not receive any of your personal data from these companies as a result of a referral.
5. Data Retention
Analytics data is retained for 14 months in Google Analytics, as per Google's default settings. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. We do not store any other personal data on our own servers.
6. Your Rights
Under PIPEDA (Canada's federal privacy law), you have the right to:
