How Wealthsimple Crypto Works
Wealthsimple Crypto is built into the same app as your TFSA, RRSP, and stock trading accounts. You don't need a separate wallet or a crypto exchange account — just open the app, tap Crypto, and buy.
Wealthsimple holds your crypto in cold storage and handles all the custody. This makes it beginner-friendly but means you don't control your own private keys (unlike a hardware wallet).

What fees does Wealthsimple Crypto charge?▾
Wealthsimple charges a 1.5% spread on crypto trades (buy and sell). There are no account fees, no deposit fees, and no withdrawal fees for CAD. Wealthsimple Plus subscribers pay a reduced 0.5% spread.
Can I transfer crypto in/out of Wealthsimple?▾
Yes — Wealthsimple supports crypto transfers in and out of the platform. You can send BTC, ETH, and other supported coins to an external wallet address, and receive crypto from external wallets into your Wealthsimple account.
Is crypto taxable in Canada?▾
Yes. The CRA treats crypto as a commodity. Selling, trading, or using crypto for purchases triggers a capital gains event. 50% of gains are included in income for amounts under $250K/year (67% for amounts over). Holding crypto in a TFSA or RRSP is not permitted for self-directed crypto trading.
